Shallow

Her roots are shallow here.
Like a Sugar Maple.

The stems branch off.
Multiplying as they go.
Right, left and up, but never down.

Unable to sink in.
Trying to grasp deeper for support.
The earth is pushing back.

All she finds is surface.
So she stays there.
Growing out but not deep.

She's feeling top heavy.
With no means of support for this place she's in.
Shallow, like a Sugar Maple.
